In a continued show of commitment to community development and youth empowerment, Edgars Stores Limited today donated a consignment of sporting equipment worth ZWL 3,000 to Tshelanyemba Primary School in Matabeleland South.

The donation forms part of the Edgars “Be A Hero” initiative, which focuses on empowering children through education, sports, and character-building opportunities.

The donation included a full soccer kit comprising 2 balls, 18 shooters, shin pads, socks, and goalkeeper gloves. Netball contributions covered team uniforms, 2 balls, and bibs. For handball, both girls’ and boys’ teams received uniforms and 2 balls each, with the boys’ team also receiving 12 pairs of socks. Volleyball teams—both girls and boys—were provided with uniforms and 2 balls each, while the rugby teams received 2 balls. To support training activities across all sports, the school also received 100 cones and 2 pumps.

The handover was officiated by Mr Peter Mnyama, Retail and Manufacturing Director at Edgars Stores Limited, who addressed pupils, teachers, and community leaders gathered at the school.

“This donation is not just about sports equipment,” said Mr Mnyama. “It’s about creating opportunity—giving these children a reason to dream bigger, stay in school, and become disciplined, driven young people. Through play, they learn leadership, teamwork, and resilience—skills that matter for life.”

He also highlighted the broader purpose of the Be A Hero campaign, a corporate social responsibility initiative by Edgars aimed at uplifting marginalised communities by investing in children’s futures.

The school’s Headmaster expressed gratitude, noting that access to such resources had been limited for years. “This will breathe life into our sports curriculum and bring our students together in healthy competition,” he said.

Community members also praised Edgars for choosing a rural school and reinforcing the belief that every child—regardless of geography—deserves opportunity.
